This mid-century ranch was in pretty rough state and was considered an eyesore by neighbors in the Irvington Neighborhood. The new owners wanted a modern design that wouldn’t clash with the traditional houses around it. The exterior plan focuses on a combination of stucco and clear cedar siding with a dark metal shingle roof creating a sharply contrasting modern style with an organic feel to it. Large eaves cover generous porch areas with lots of planting areas. A new entry invites guests to wander up a set of floating concrete steps.
Inside the house was opened up as walls were removed and skylights added to bring natural light and improved airflow. A new kitchen adjacent to a large living area creates an excellent entertainment space for a couple that loves to cook. The fireplace in the living room gets special treatment with glass mosaic tile mixed with a beautifully shaped, smooth concrete hearth.
