Mado House

The Mado House (Window House) is a sustainable multifamily urban medium-density infill project, centrally located in Portland’s Boise–Elliot neighborhood. Blending a modern aesthetic with a Japanese sensibility, these four luxurious units have open floor plans and versatile living spaces. Inspired by the surrounding neighborhood and the panoramic views of the city and mountains, the original design concept was to create a set of structures that contained as many windows as a wood-framed building could handle.

Along with our baseline expectations of responsible design—including energy star certified appliances and lighting, low VOC materials, un-dyed wool carpeting, and highly efficient windows—the Mado House features sustainable amenities like onsite storm-water retention, pervious pavement, solar hot water heating, and renewable bamboo flooring. The generous use of space in these three-story units additionally allows for ample natural lighting and ventilation, creating an inviting and inspired place to call home..
