Davis House

artisan home renovation

This charming Southeast Portland cottage had excellent bones but was challenged with tight spaces and poor flow. Sakura’s design plan included creating more room in the small kitchen and adding tile and concrete countertops to create a clean-lined work space that is beautiful in its simplicity. An upstairs attic room was turned into a master suite by adding a small bathroom that overcame its slanted roof with a skylight that created space and light in what otherwise would have been an uncomfortably cramped room.

“Working with Sakura, I set out to highlight the home’s underappreciated characteristics (woodwork, hardwood floors) and re-create spaces that could be made more functional with a little TLC (kitchen and bathrooms). Our aesthetic focus was to establish a common thread throughout the house, such that there weren’t rooms that stood out as not blending with the rest of the house.”
